We’ve provided several answers to questions related to Roland BY-20 Direct to Film (DTF) 20 , see some other helpful Q&A related to this product.
Question: Can you detail the specifications of the Roland BY-20 DTF Printer?
Answer: The technical specs for the Roland BY-20 DTF Printer, an all in one dtf printer, can be found on the attached technical data sheet.
Question: I read that the first time this printer is put into operation, it uses more white ink than usual, is this true?
Answer: The first time the Roland BY-20 is configured for use, the white ink will be used up in filling the ink lines, and dampers. This does not mean that the white ink is wasted, it just means it is in the printer ink lines and this will give a lower ink level reading than is actually true. There are 8 internal channels in the printer, and the white fills 4 of those channels (1/2 of all the internal ink is white, the other 1/2 is CMYK), so there will essentially be 4 times as much ink used in the initial priming cycle of the white vs the colors, thereby resulting in a lower white ink reading (but the ink is still there in the printer). Once you replace the white cartridge with a new one (your second cartridge) the usage of the ink on the status monitor will be more realistic/accurate. DTGPRO now includes an extra white ink cartridge for FREE with the Roland BY-20 + Ink Bundle.
Question: Is the VersaSTUDIO BY-20 suitable for small businesses?
Answer: Yes, it is highly suitable for small businesses. Its compact size, ease of use, and professional-grade output make this dtf printer and cutter an excellent choice for businesses looking to expand or enhance their printing capabilities.
Question: What type of ink cartridges does the VersaSTUDIO BY-20 use?
Answer: The printer uses 220-ml cartridges available in Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, and White. These color options support a wide color gamut, essential for producing vivid and accurate prints with the dtf printer and cutter.
Question: What is the maximum media width the VersaSTUDIO BY-20 can handle?
Answer: The maximum media width the dtf printer and cutter can handle is 20.2 inches.
Question: Would this ink work on plastic? HDPE or ABS?
Answer: Kindly note that DTF Printers/inks will NOT work on hard substrates as DTF printers and inks are mostly compatible with fabric and similar materials. For what you materials you need to print on, UV inks and printers are best options to look into.
You can use UV inks on High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) plastic and on ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) material as well!
However, it's important to note that HDPE has a low surface energy, which means it requires a pre-treatment to ensure proper adhesion of the UV ink. Once the pre-treatment is done, UV inks can be applied effectively, producing vibrant and durable prints. ABS is a popular choice for UV printing because it has a smooth surface that allows for even ink distribution and adhesion. Just like with HDPE, it's important to properly prepare the ABS surface by cleaning it and applying a primer to ensure the best results.
