We understand that it can be surprising when ink bottles appear to have extra space at the top, and we’d like to offer some clarity.
Our ink bottles are intentionally larger than the volume of ink they contain, and this is by design for several important reasons:
Ink can expand and settle during shipping and storage. If bottles were filled to the top or made to match the exact ink volume, they could overflow or leak - especially when shaken or exposed to temperature changes.
The extra space helps ensure safe filling, handling, and transportation.
While bottle types may vary slightly depending on the plastic and manufacturing origin, the empty bottles we use for our 950ml inks (for example) typically weigh between 100–115 grams. For reference, we’ve provided example photos of large bottles that weigh ~115 grams empty. When filled, the total bottle weight is ~1,100 grams, meaning the ink itself weighs ~985 grams (1,100 - 115), which aligns with the expected weight for 950ml of ink.
So although the ink may not reach the very top of the bottle, it contains the correct volume of ink as advertised. This practice applies across all bottle sizes and ink volumes to maintain consistency and reliability.
