In some cases (rare), you may notice a faint mirrored image appear on the surface of your MagicSeal Sheet after the finishing press. This is not a defect in the sheet and does not usually affect the final print on the garment.
What you are seeing is usually surface ink migration during heat activation.
This happens most commonly when using non-traditional DTF inks, such as sublimation ink used in DTF-style workflows (sometimes called the “DTF sublimation hack”).
Here’s why:
- Professional DTF inks are formulated to remain stable and bond with adhesive powder during the heat transfer process.
- Sublimation inks behave differently by design: when heated, they convert into a gas (sublimation), penetrate fibers, and re-solidify as they cool.
Because of this natural gas-phase transition, a small amount of vaporized dye can temporarily contact the finishing sheet surface, leaving a faint mirrored impression.
Think of it this way: if you covered that same print with any smooth, non-porous surface during pressing (including silicone or other non-porous papers), you could potentially see the same effect.
Usually no.
In almost all cases:
- The garment print remains intact
- Color loss is minimal to negligible
- Washability and durability are unaffected
- The MagicSeal Sheet remains usable
Yes. Absolutely.
Many customers successfully use MagicSeal Sheet with sublimation-based transfers and hybrid workflows.
Just understand that sublimation-based systems can behave differently under heat than true DTF ink systems, so seeing light ghosting on the sheet can be normal. You could consider pressing for a few seconds less time to minimize this effect.
Is MagicSeal Spray better for sublimation workflows? For some users, MagicSeal Spray can be a better fit because it is used with a Teflon finishing sheet, which tends to be less prone to dye pickup during heat-pressing.
MagicSeal Spray still delivers the core MagicSeal benefits:
- Softer hand feel
- Better breathability
- Improved wash durability
Using professional DTF ink?
→ MagicSeal Sheet or MagicSeal Spray both work great.
Using sublimation ink / DTF sublimation hack?
→ MagicSeal Sheet still works well.
→ MagicSeal Spray may reduce visible sheet ghosting.
Bottom line:
A faint image on the sheet does not mean the sheet is failing. It is simply a result of how certain inks behave under heat, especially sublimation-based inks. MagicSeal remains fully effective and safe to use across multiple transfer workflows.
